Manchester Astronomical SocietyVisitors are welcome at any Public Lecture Meeting. Also visitors are very welcome to visit the Godlee Observatory a few times before deciding whether or not to join the Society. If you wish to know more about the MAS why not take a quick tour of the Godlee Observatory, or better still, come down to see us. Please read the Health & Safety Notice below.
As a member of the Manchester Astronomical
Society you would have access to the Godlee Telescopes for visual observing
or you can bring along a camera to image the Moon and Planets. Membership also
gives you use of the library where you can borrow books, videos, CD's and DVD's.
There are also a number of telescopes available for loan to members.
The Godlee Observatory is open on most Thursdays from about 6:30pm - 9:30pm
except when there is a public lecture which is held on the third Thursday from
October to March inclusive, with the AGM in April. The Godlee Observatory is
usually also closed over the Christmas / New Year period.
If you wish to join the Society you may print out a Membership application form, and post it, with your subscription, to the address at at the bottom of the form or bring it along to one of the meetings. Please note that due to Health and Safety Restrictions members under 18 years of age are not allowed to enter the Godlee dome area (where the telescopes are situated), the spiral staircase or the walkway on the outside of the dome. Please read the Health & Safety Notice below.

Health & Safety procedures within the Godlee Observatory are maintained for the safety of members, staff and visitors to the observatory. Currently this restricts the minimum age of persons that can enter the Godlee dome area (where the telescopes are situated), the spiral staircase and the walkway on the outside of the dome to 18yrs. All visitors must be accompanied by a trained warden when using the spiral staircase or entering the Godlee dome. Currently the walkway on the outside of the dome is not accessible. All persons in the Godlee Observatory Complex must observe all Health & Safety procedures and notices. All group visits must be pre-arranged
to ensure there are an appropriate number of trained personnel present;
this may require a risk assessment. |
